Bay Area Lifestyles and Culture
SAN FRANCISCO AND THE BAY AREA
Situated at the tip of a peninsula, San Francisco is surrounded by the
Pacific Ocean to the west, the Golden Gate to the north and the Bay of
San Francisco to the east. Abounding with spectacular panoramas of
hills and seascapes, San Francisco is a center of commerce and recreation.
It is well known for, among other things, a variety of excellent restaurants,
many cultural attractions and a relaxed lifestyle.
The Congress venue, the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco, is centrally
located and provides easy access by foot or by cable car to Union Square,
Chinatown, Japantown and the Civic Center, as well as to the Bay Area Rapid
Transit (BART).
THE BAY AREA
Short drives and day trips will take visitors to a variety of exciting
and rewarding destinations: the Golden Gate Bridge, Berkeley, Stanford,
the wine country, ancient redwood forests, hundreds of scenic hiking trails,
Silicon Valley, Monterey and its world-famous aquarium, Santa Cruz and
Carmel. In addition, the greater San Francisco Bay Area is home to
several centers of phonetic research, among them universities, institutes,
industries and clinics.
